Demister

1, About demister

The demister is one of our reinforced polypropylene products. The types of demister are classified as: Horizontal type, Perpendicular type, “^”type, “V” type and combination type etc. With the similar running results, the demister of reinforced polypropylene is more economical than that of other material.

The FGD is widely applied to process the furnace gas from boilers of power generation and cement production, the gas produced by making electrolytic aluminum or other metal, the gas produced by FCC installation in refinery and other gas which needs desulfurization.

In order to open the market of China, H&L has established a representative office and a center of R&D in Shanghai. It centers in R&D of synthetic technique for polymer, additives for polymer and polymer modeling technique, and focuses on designing and manufacturing demisters according to the American standard practiced in FGD.

2, The application of demister in FGD

The FGD are widely applied in power generation, metallurgy, building materials, chemical engineering field etc.While the demister is the key device in the desulfurization system. It affects the continuous and reliable running of the wet process of FGD system. The faultiness of demister can not only cause the stop of the FGD system, but also the shutdown of the power-generating unit. So, the scientific and reasonable design of demister is extremely important for the normal running of wet washing FGD system.

3, Operating principle of the demister

When the gas with the liquid drops enters into the channels of demister, the gas and liquid drop is separated because of the flown line deflection and the inertia force. Part of liquid drops hit the blades of demister and are collected by them finally.

The collecting efficiency rises as the increase of the gas flow rate. The reason is that the higher the velocity of gas flow is, the stronger the inertia force that exerts on the liquid drop is, which is propitious to the separation of gas and liquid drop. However, the rise of velocity of gas flow will increase the resistance of the system, which increases the energy-consumption. At the same time, the rise of velocity of gas flow must be limited, because the exorbitant velocity of gas flow causes the secondary water-adsorption, which will decrease the demisting efficiency.

4, Composition of demister

The demister in FGD is composed of two parts that are the body of demister and the flushing system.
The demister is assembled with blade, fixture, clamp and bracket in certain configuration. Its function is to collect the liquid drop in gas and a tiny amount of dust, to reduce the efficiency of water- adsorption of gas and to prevent the fan from vibrating.

The types of demister are: Horizontal type, Perpendicular type, “^”type, “V” type and combination type etc. In general, under the circumstance of high velocity of gas flow, the “^”type and “V” type are always be adopted, and the Perpendicular type is adopted in the horizontal section of the flue at the exit of absorbing tower.

The flushing system is composed of flushing nozzle, sluice pump, pipes, valve, pressure gauge and electrical controlling section. Its function is to flush periodically the liquid drop and dust which is collected by the blades of the demister (under some circumstances the function is to keep the surface of blade wet), to prevent the blade from scaling and clogging, and to maintain the normal running of the system.

6, Main characteristics

For time being, Huolin has installed the demister successfully in power generation, metallurgy, building materials, chemical engineering field etc. According to the running situation of FGD in China, we optimized the design of demister. The main characteristics are as follow,

  1. The demisting efficiency is high.
  2. The pressure drop of demister body is low.
  3. The structure is compact and the utilization rate of throughflow of cross-section of demister is high.
  4. It can work under the high concentration of dust without scaling and clogging.
  5. It can stand the impact of high temperature gas without damaging it.
  6. Easy to install, overhaul, maintain and replace.

7, Introduction of two types demisters

  1. Horizontal type demister

    The demisting efficiency and capability of this type of demister is high and its price is economic. It can be arranged in single stage or multiple stages. The standard space between of blades is 20mm - 45mm. It can not only be adopted for a newly-built project, but also can be used to replace the old one as a technical innovation, that is to upgrade and rebuild the absorption tower on the basis of primary overhand structure. This type of demister is made of polypropylene.
